It’s so easy to make your own chicken nuggets, not to mention healthier than the frozen kind you get at the grocery store! Look how simple it is…
Chicken Nuggets
- boneless skinless chicken breasts
- an egg
- plain breadcrumbs
- seasonings (such as garlic powder, pepper & italian seasoning)
- Parmesan cheese
- olive oil
Start by cutting chicken into small bite sized pieces. In two seperate bowls add 1 egg with a little water. Next add breadcrumbs along with seasonings in second bowl.
Place chicken in egg mixture to coat. Next add chicken to breadcrumb mixture. Once coated, add chicken to a pan with olive oil & saute’ turning til golden brown. Remove from pan & place on a plate along with paper towel to remove excess oil. Sprinkle with cheese before serving.
*Goes awesome with ranch dressing*

I’m totally making these for lunch today! Keep the recipes coming :).
My kids love these…so do I! :)
Looks delicious!
This recipe looks delicious! I always make mine plain, so the parmesan cheese sounds like a good thing to add, thanks!
Love this version – Looks great!! Will be a hit in my house!!
Is this based off of the recipe in the NYTimes? They look very similar! Thanks for this, sounds very easy and tasty.
Hilary: No actually, my mom sort of conjured it up for us kids growing up. Now I’ve got my hubby hooked!
These look great. I’m a big fan of chicken nuggets, too, and I just finished some mozzerella sticks I’d made and I realized that it’s just about the same way to prep them. Dip in beaten egg, roll in breadcrumb mix, freeze, then fry.
bet they would be just as good (an much healthier) baked. the real bummer i run into is finding packaged bread crumbs that don’t contain hydrogenated oils.
@ Justin… make your own breadcrumbs in a food processor. I do that will all my ends of the breads I buy. Nice mixture of breads make the crumbs very flavorful!
For the people looking for a slightly healthier alternative:
- Swap the egg with some non-fat yogurt
- Bake in the oven
On a slightly less healthy note, if you have chips or pringles that are starting to go a little bit too stale/soft to eat, chuck those in with your breadcrumbs for some flavouring! I love putting in some thai sweet chilli crisps in to add a bit of taste to the breadcrumbs.
Great recipe, Sammy, love it :)
I make something similar. I mix the Parmesan in with the breadcrumbs, and use olive oil or butter to dip the chicken in, then bake in a 400 degree oven for about 22 minutes. I’ll have to try sprinkling the Parmesan–probably use less of it that way.
This looked so yummy and easy to make that I decided to try the recipe. My family went nuts over it! I thought I had made more than enough, but it left everyone asking for more! Two days later my son asked me when I was going to make more chicken nuggets! It’s a hit in my home!

These are a family staple in my home now… Thank you! I found your recipe on pinterest & have modified it for our gluten free home. My husband LOVES these & my whole family gobbles them up. If we’re lucky enough to have leftovers the husband takes them to work for lunch the next day. Yum, Yum, Yum!!!
Yum! I tried these because my boys (including hubby) loves chicken nuggets, but the store bought ones are not much of a treat, in my opinion! I made these two times in the past couple weeks and they love love love them! Of course, now I have spoiled them and they will never eat store bought again!
I have been hunting for a good chicken nugget recipe. I do all the cooking and wanted to find a recipe that I would feel good about serving to my family, especially the little ones. This fit the bill perfectly. The kids love them as a snack and my son ate them as a whole meal one time (before my wife realized what he was doing).
I do something similar. I have three bowls, one with flour (and seasonings), one with egg and one with Panko bread crumbs. I dredge the chicken in flour first, then the egg, then the Panko and cook as you have listed above. The Panko makes them nice and crunchy!
i love to use dip chicken bits in shakenbake extra crispy and bake on 375 for 30 mins. yummy.
