She loves these bars to much our family has officially changed the name in honor of her.

No longer are they called ‘chocolate walnut toffee bars’ which would best describe the recipe, no my friends they have now for the past couple of years been known as Mikaela bars. I think of her every time I whip a batch of these babies up.

I mean what’s not to love, chocolate, brown sugar, butter crumbs, toffee bits, sweetened condensed milk, walnuts…

Chocolate Walnut Toffee Bars aka: Mikaela Bars
family recipe

  • 2 1/3 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter, cold
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 2 cups chocolate chips, divided
  • 14oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 10oz toffee bits

Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl mix flour and sugar. Using a pastry cutter, cut in cold butter and egg until crumbly. Add 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips and walnuts. Set aside 1 1/2 cups of this mixture for later. Press remaining mixture in a 9×13 greased pan and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and pour sweetened condensed milk over the baked cookie layer followed by 1 1/2 cups toffee bits, the 1 1/2 cups reserved crumb mixture and remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips. Bake for 25-30 minutes more until golden brown & bubbly. Once bars are out of the oven sprinkle remaining toffee bits on top. Allow to cool completely before serving.
