Awh if you could only smell my kitchen as these little babies were baking! It’s now feeling (and smelling) like fall around here, finally! When I want to make my own air freshener, these come first to mind, not to mention they taste out of this world! I got this recipe from Isaac’s aunt and have been making them ever since! They are so good, soft and chewy with the creaminess of the powdered sugar frosting, it’s a match made in heaven!
Molasses Cookies
- 1 1/8 cup oil
- 3/8 cup molasses
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 t ground cloves
- 3/4 t ginger
- 1 1/2 t cinnamon
- 3/4 t salt
- 3 t baking soda
- 3 cups unbleached all purpose flour
Mix the oil, molasses, eggs and brown sugar together until well combined. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Bake at 375 for 5-8 minutes (enjoy the wonderful aroma as they bake), cookies should be soft and chewy. Cool on rack.
Make frosting by combining powdered sugar with a little water until desired contistancy, I prefer a little thicker frosting. Frost cookies with the back of a spoon. Enjoy these!

Gorgeous photos, and I love molasses. These cookies look amazing!
I just made these and they are great, but…..mine got very flat as they cooled. Any idea why.
terry: hmm, not sure why they came out flat, they usually are more puffy right after you take them out of the oven, then they flatten slightly, but not by much.
[…] afraid I don’t actually have a recipe for these. You see, I started off with this recipe for Molasses Cookies from SammyW and distractedly added almost twice the amount of molasses necessary. So I upped the flour, spices […]
